Big Picture Question:

Are any families on Earth perfect? No! Only God’s family is perfect!

What We Learned

kc newsletter 10:28:18 pic 5.jpg

In today’s lesson we continue to learn about Abram (who will later be called Abraham) and the the covenant God made with him. God promised Abram a really big family! There were times that Abram did not trust God and today’s lesson was about one of those times. Abram’s wife, Sarai, had not had any children and was frustrated and impatient. Sarai had a slave called Hagar and she told Abram, “Since the Lord has prevented me from bearing children, go to my slave; perhaps through her I can build a family.” So now Abram has two wives! Sarai was so old, she did not trust God to fulfill His promise of giving Abram a son, so they tried to take things into their own hands. After Hagar became pregnant, her relationship with Sarai got much worse. Sarai treated Hagar so badly that she ran away. At this point God sent an angel to intervene and was able to convince Hagar to come back. Ishmael was born later (son of Hagar and Abram). But some time later, Sarai herself became pregnant, just as the Lord had promised. Once she had her son, Isaac, she became jealous of Hagar and her child. So she had Abram send Hagar and her son away. God never left Hagar however and the boy grew and became an archer.

Jesus Connection

No family is perfect. But Jesus came to this world as a perfect example to us. He loved everyone and, when He died for our sins, He gave us an opportunity to join His family. So for those who decide to place your faith in Jesus, they will get to be a part of His perfect kingdom and His perfect family forever!
