Big Picture Question:
Why shouldn’t we worry about having enough? Because God gives us more than we need!
What We Learned
In today’s lesson we continue to learn about Abram (who will later be called Abraham) and the the covenant God made with him. God promised Abram a really big family! And this would not just be referring to his children, but his children’s children, and his children’s children’s children; all of his descendants. In that time, it was a big deal to have a big family. One reason for this was back then, the most basic things, even food and water, were not so easy to get. People did not just have fridges they could open when they wanted food. It took a lot of hard work, so even the kids had to help. And the more kids you had, the more work could get done. It was through this promise that we got a many of the eventual characters that will be covered in genesis and the books to come such as Mary (Jesus’ mom)!
We know that Abram had many descendants, but keep in mind that one of his descendants was Mary, that is, Mary the mother of Jesus! So Jesus was also a descendant of Abram! This means that when God blessed Abram, he also blessed us by allowing Jesus to come to earth by being born from Mary and to go on to save us from our sins by dying on the cross! This was God’s plan all along. And it was more than we could ever earn or deserve, but it was because He loves us so much that he gave us that gift anyways! And those who place their faith in Jesus will get to enjoy God’s great blessings for all of eternity!
