What We Learned
This past Sunday’s story took place generations after the Tower of Babel. In it we see a man who does the right thing and listens to God’s instructions. And God blesses him as a result. The man is named Abram and God promised him that he would make him a nation which meant that he would have so many descendants that would make up an entire nation! And that through this nation, the whole world would be blessed! It took faith for Abram to trust God with such a big thing. But Abram’s faith was not perfect. He failed to trust God multiple times in his journey, but the Bible tells us that trusted God with the big stuff and that God “...counted him as righteous because of his faith.” (Genesis 15:6).
God promised to bless the whole world through Abram. God fulfilled that promise in many ways, but the most important was when Jesus, who is God, came down in human form and was born in the line of Abram. And when Jesus died, He blessed the world by giving us an opportunity to be saved from our sins when we place our faith in Him.
